The conflict in Western Sahara, which has persisted for half a century, may be nearing its end. Signs of a possible resolution to this protracted situation have begun to surface against the backdrop of changing political landscapes globally, and particularly across the continent. The UN Special Representative for Western Sahara, Stefan Dujarric, reported a budding optimism among all involved parties, including both groups vying for control over this vast and resource-rich territory: the Moroccan government and the Polisario, the driving force for the region's independence.
