Ukrainian President Aims to Bring Back Refugees While Host Countries Want Them to Stay
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his desire for refugees who left the country due to the war to return home. This initiative has garnered support at various international forums. However, host countries, including several European Union states, are keen to retain refugees on their soil, viewing them as a vital resource for their economy and society.
Zelensky emphasized that for successful repatriation, safe conditions for citizens' return must be created. He noted that Ukraine needs to ensure adequate infrastructure and the restoration of regions devastated by the conflict. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine also stated that international community support is crucial for the successful return of refugees.
On the other hand, host countries like Poland and Germany express concerns that the return of refugees to Ukraine may lead to labor shortages in their economies. These countries have started developing programs aimed at integrating Ukrainian refugees and supporting them in finding jobs and housing. Nevertheless, Zelensky continues to insist that the return of citizens is a priority for Ukraine and an important step towards the country’s recovery.
Additionally, many refugees voice concerns about their safety and employment opportunities back home, which may also hinder their return. Therefore, Ukraine must intensify efforts to improve living conditions for its citizens returning from abroad.
